Victory Day
Our liberation struggle is a great historical event in the history of
Bangladesh. So the 16 th December, 1971 is a red -letter day in the life
of Bangladeshi becauce it is the day of our victory over the barbarous
pak army. This day is observed in a befitting manner throughout the
country every year. The day starts with pravat-Ferry, which is done for
awakening the people in the early morning by national song. After mid
day seminars are held in most of the educational institutions. The
afternoon passes in various sports and game. In the evening all the
houses and buildings are illuminated. But at the same time we must
remember the spirit of the war of liberation and help our younger
generation to know the fact and background of this victory.
As we step into the 45th year of independence. it is a time to pay homage to the three million of known and unknown heroes of the Liberation War who laid down their lives so that we may taste the fruits of liberty. It is time to remember the father of the Nation Bangabandhu, led the nation to victory. On this day we also remember our foreign friends, particularly India for their unflinching support during the crucial nine months of the war.
The country has come far from the days of injustice and persecution suffered under the hands of Pakistanis during the 24 years under Pakistan and the harrowing nine months of war. However, it is also a time for stocktaking to see whether we have lived up to the dreams of our martyrs.
